Last weekend, Mullingar played host to two of this year’s most hotly contested amateur competitions.
Meath’s Peter Dargan and his mount Ballivor Man kicked off proceedings by winning the coveted Irish Farmers Journal title. This competition saw 43 ‘A’ amateur riders from all regions battle it out, with 18 competitors eventually making it into the jump-off.
While Peter claimed the title, Waterford man John Fennell took second place with Maire Cosgrove and Laura Carrrick picking up third and fourth spots.
A blazing round from Brian Cassidy and his mare Looks Easy secured him the 2020 Horseware Ireland Amateur Champion title. Brian clocked an unbeatable time of 37.60 seconds in the jump off, 1.5 seconds faster than Aideen Kirby who claimed second place. Third place went to Paul Tarpey, with Derrick Burke and Johnnie Fitzpatrick slotting into fourth and fifth.
