Last December, An Bord Pleanála gave planning permission to EirGrid for the southern section of the 140km long 400kV overhead power line that will link the electricity grids of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The judicial review case was lodged in the High Court on Monday of this week. Last December, An Bord Pleanála gave planning permission to EirGrid for the southern section of the 140km long 400kV overhead power line that will link the electricity grids of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
The thrust of the case being brought by EAAI is that EirGrid, the semi-state body responsible for operating Ireland’s electricity network, is not complying with an Environmental Impact Assessment directive transposed into Ireland after a European court judgment in March 2011.
Therefore, EAAI wants the court to “quash” the planning permission for the North-South interconnector given by An Bord Pleanála last year.
The case will come before the courts again next week.
