Drawing an average of 97 walkers per day, the Donegal Camino returns for a fourth year, starting on Sunday 1 September at Ireland’s most northerly point, Malin Head.

The seven-day walking festival is taking place over seven contrasting walks across the scenic routes in Donegal and organisers are inviting all levels of fitness to join in.

Welcoming walkers from all across the island of Ireland and the world, the Donegal Camino is positioning a world-class walking product.

The Donegal Camino is now Cancer Care West Donegal’s flagship fundraising initiative and the organising committee is led by chair Noel Cunningham. This year, it has set itself the target of fundraising €100,000 for 2024.

Founding committee members of the Donegal Camino Peggy Stringer and Deirdre McGlone - former owner of Harvey’s Point - have created novel and innovative fundraising initiatives to support the €100,000 target.

Flagship

“Cancer Care West Support Centre in Letterkenny and across Donegal relies solely on private donations, it doesn’t receive any State funding. The Donegal Camino is now its flagship fundraiser event. Since its foundation in 2021, we’ve donated €160,000.

"The money will support Donegal cancer patients and their families in the fight against cancer. Right now, we’ve an average of 97 walkers per day supporting us, along with partners and sponsors, and we thank them for their generosity,” says Noel Cunningham.

The 2024 Donegal Camino itinerary features many familiar walks and, as always, there are plenty of new walks and hikes to explore the wealth of scenic routes across the county.

The walks across the week will include the Ards Forest Park, a sunrise climb of Errigal, Crohy Head and the Gay Byrne Trail or Cosán Gay Byrne.

The traditional finale of the Donegal Camino will take place on Saturday 7 September on Europe’s highest sea cliffs, Sliabh Liag. New to the Donegal Camino itinerary for 2024 is an alternative to the Sliabh Liag climb, an enjoyable Sliabh Liag boat trip, with ticket donations going to Donegal Camino’s fundraising for Cancer Care West Donegal.
