The days of having just four television channels are long gone. Those are now accompanied by hundreds of other stations and the online force that is Netflix – where you can watch what you want, when you want.

However, old habits die hard and utterances of “there’s nothing on” are still often heard. How, with the abundance of instant films, series and documentaries available on Netflix, can there be nothing on, I hear you ask?

Well, perhaps the issue is not that there is nothing to watch, but simply sifting through the multitude of options to find something to suitable. So, Irish Country Living has saved you the hassle, whatever you’re looking for, we’ve got you covered, with our guide to navigating Netflix.

Must watch – The Fundamentals of Caring

Starring Paul Rudd, Craig Roberts and Selena Gomez, The Fundamentals of Caring tracks a road trip adventure undertaken by a young man with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and his carer. A Netflix Original, the film became available to stream this summer and is adapted from the book The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving by Jonathan Evison.

Re-watch – Friends

An old reliable. We’ve all seen Friends more times than we care to remember, but who wouldn’t want to watch the sitcom again?

All of the 10 series are currently on Netflix, the beauty being that you can pop in and out of different episodes whenever you need a little pick-me-up.

Documentary – Icarus

Critically acclaimed, Icarus won the Academy Award for best documentary feature earlier this year. The 2017 American documentary film centres on director Bryan Fogel’s investigations into the murky world of illegal doping in sports, particularly focusing on his relationship with Dr Grigory Rodchenkov, the director of Russia’s national anti-doping laboratory and the revelations that follow from their friendship.

Chick flick – To All the Boys I’ve loved Before

One of the many popular Netflix Originals now coming on stream, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the quintessential chick flick and the perfect movie for a girls night in. Based on the novel of the same name by Jenny Han, protagonist Lara Jean’s teen angst has been captivating viewers since the film’s August release.

Binge watch – The Crown

Season three of The Crown is much anticipated by patiently waiting fans of the historical drama and if you haven’t already seen it, now is the perfect time to catch up. The show will appeal to both fans of the English royals and history buffs alike, as it covers the biographical reign of Queen Elizabeth II. It’s the perfect option for a binge watch of a rainy afternoon.
