The slurry spreading season will open on 13 January for farmers in Zone A (Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford, and Wicklow).
Zone B opens on 16 January for farmers in Clare, Galway, Kerry, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Roscommon, Sligo, and Westmeath.
It opens on 1 February for farmers in Zone C (Donegal, Cavan, Leitrim and Monaghan) and in Northern Ireland.
Chemical fertiliser and farmyard manure
Farmers should also be aware that the season for the spreading of chemical fertiliser also kicks off later this month for Zones A and B.
Farms located in Zone A can apply chemical fertiliser from January 27, followed by January 30 for those farming in Zone B.
Farmers located in Zone C cannot spread chemical fertilisers until February 15.
In Zone A farmers can spread farmyard manure from 13 January followed by Zone B on January 16. Farmers in Zone C have to wait until 1 February before farmyard manure spreading is permitted.
