Speaking exclusively to the Irish Farmers Journal, he explained: “Due to circumstances outside of my control, I felt I couldn’t fulfil my duties as president going forward so I felt the best course of action was to resign.
“The farm machinery trade never needed the FTMTA as much as they need them now to help them through the current situation. The association is doing a brilliant job keeping the trade informed and up to date on all the ongoing developments”.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people in the FTMTA for their friendship and support over the years. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working with them and will help the association any way I can going forward.”
A statement issued by the FTMTA to its members said: “It is with regret that I must inform you that Mr. Jimmy Butler has, in recent weeks, resigned as FTMTA president and also as a member of the FTMTA executive council”.
“In his letter of resignation, Jimmy expressed his best wishes to the association and his thanks to all involved in the FTMTA for their support during his time as president which commenced in January of 2019. Jimmy has served on the FTMTA executive council since mid-2012 and we thank him for his contribution to the association over that time”.
