Planimeter is an app that is used to measure area, distance, perimeter and GPS coordinates on a map.
One farmer contacted me to say he uses it when he is out in the field and putting a fence up for the cows to check to see what size the area is.
You simply put two points on the map and it calculates the area. He has also used it in the past to plan roadways and measure the area of fields he is renting. It can also create GPS tracks to show where water pipes are buried.

You can use it along with Google Maps. You can save a screenshot of the map with measurements and send it to yourself via email. You can also easily zoom in and out to edit the point location.
He purchased it for €3.99 a few years ago but said there are probable better ones for free available now.
Do you use another app for the same purpose? Are there apps or technology that you use to save time or costs? We would like to hear your feedback as well. Email bizsense@farmersjournal.ie
