Judge Larry Crilly, Co Armagh, selected Meelickaduff Honda as champion in the Limousin section. Honda, a three-year-old first-calved cow, is sired by Vantastic and is out of Etole, with her January bull calf at foot, Meelickaduff Lamborghini, sired by Sympa. Owned by the Hester family from Castlerea, Co Roscommon, she later went on to be selected as interbreed champion of the show. Reserve champion Limousin went to Michael Oliver from Swinford Co Mayo with his September 2015-born heifer, Lisnacrann Judy – sired by Emerson.
Champion Simmental was awarded to Lisnacrann Fiddlefart, owned by Michael Oliver, Swinford Co Mayo – a September-born heifer sired by Hillcrest Jerome. Reserve Champion went to Moorglen Girlpower, a November 2015-born heifer,sired by Curaheen Wakeman and owned by Shane Silke, Castlerea, Co Roscommon.
Lim X bullock as commercial champion
Judge Joe Hargroves from Co Laois was put to the test in the commercial section, selecting Bekan, Co Mayo breeder Sinead Prendergast’s Lim X bullock as champion. Reserve champion went to John Klien, Lansborough, with his ChX heifer sired by Verdy.
In the Charolais section, judge David Connelly selected his champion, Williamstown Maradona (photo below), owned by Aidan Farrell, Moate, Co Westmeath.
Maradona is an Elgin Davinici daughter and was also selected as the All-Ireland Charolais female baby calf champion earlier in the day. She was later made reserve interbreed champion of the show. Male champion and reserve Charolais champion was awarded to Rockey Luke, a November-born Crossmolina Euro son owned by Martin O’Connor, Strokestown, Co Roscommon.
Selected by judge James McEnroe from Virginia, Co Cavan, Shorthorn champion was awarded to Rockville Nancy, owned by Tom and Genevieve Cox, Strokestown, Co Roscommon and sired by Rockville Rowan.
McEnroe then went on to judge the Angus champion, where he selected Owenmore Mella (photo below) as overall champion.
Mella, a yearling heifer sired by stock bull Owenmore Kit, is owned by Antony Scanlon, Ballymoate, Co Sligo. Finally, in the Hereford section, McEnroe tapped forward Loughrinn Lille 435 as champion, owned by Coote Geelan, Drummin, Carrick-on-Shannon and sired by Kye Rodge.
