The Levobovin mobile head scoop designed by French company Mazeron is wheeled to the feed barrier and slots under the heads of two to four cattle as they are feeding. The width between individual scoops is adjustable to match gaps in the feed barrier. A hand crank is then used to lift the scoop, which combines with the barrier to restrain the cattle’s heads. Dosing can then take place safely and easily, making the whole process manageable for one person.
“It works best when used with several cattle as they reassure each other” and keep their head in the scoop, Mazeron’s Sébastien Clause told the Irish Farmers Journal at the recent SPACE livestock show in France. The device won the top Innov’space prize at the show.
There are no plans to distribute the product in Ireland at present, but the manufacturer can be contacted via its website www.mazeron-sas.com.
