On a great day for showing at Arva Show on Sunday last, supreme champion went to David and Marshal Abbott, Drumcrow, Killeshandra, Co Cavan, for their six-year-old Limousin cow Killycroney Heron. She is sired by ACAJOU (AJZ) and out of a FAIGNANT (FGN) bred dam. On the day, Heron filled the Abbott’s trophy cabinet, taking home the champion Limousin, overall champion pedigree and overall supreme champion across all breeds.

Reserve

Reserve overall pedigree champion was awarded to Sean McKeirnan, Corlismore House, Corlismore, Co Cavan. His two-and-a-half-year-old bull was also tapped forward for the overall Hereford champion on the day.

Commercial

The overall commercial champion went to the Moorehead family from Aghagreagh, Ballinalee, Co Longford, for its Milbrook Dartangan-bred heifer. The Moorehead family also had the winner in the best commercial with no permanent teeth class.

Charolais

Overall Charolais champion was awarded to Pottlereagh Noah ET and the reserve champion Charolais went to his full brother Porttlereagh Nugent ET. They were exhibited by the Hughes family from Pottlereagh, Cootehill, Co Cavan. The two bulls also took the first prize in the Charolais pair class.

Aberdeen Angus

Tom Mulligan, Currycramp, Dromad, Co Leitrim, took home overall champion Aberdeen Angus trophy for the second consecutive year at the show for his cow and calf pair.

Belgian Blue

Both the champion and reserve rosettes in the Belgian Blue section were awarded to James McNally, Hawthorn Lodge, Dublin Road, Co Longford.

Simmental

The Maguire brothers from Main Street, Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, came out on top in the Simmental section with their stylish 16-month-old Curaheen Wakeman-bred heifer.
