The competition at the recent Irish Angus Cattle Society All-Ireland Championships 2015 was reported as first-rate, with exciting contests in all classes. Michael Cronin from Carker, Scartaglen, Killarney, Co Kerry, had the important task of judging the event held at Strokestown Show.

Michael tapped forward Clooncolligan Kara as the supreme Irish Angus All-Ireland champion 2015 and RDS champion of champions. Born in May 2013 to the dam Clooncolligan Useful Lady and sired by Cashelane Michael F663, Clooncolligan Kara was bred by Kevin Diffley, Clooncolligan, Bornacoola, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim.

The reserve supreme champion stayed close to Strokestown with local breeders Cathal and JJ McCormack from Steil, Tulsk, Castlerea, Co Roscommon, claiming the honour with Steil Larry 269. Sired from The Moss Kriss L128 and from dam Keelties Helene, the September 2014-born Steil Larry 269 was also judged the overall Irish Angus All-Ireland junior champion.

Cloghogue Eldorado P112, bred from sire Tonroe Udi and dam Cloghogue Gloria, was judged the junior female champion. The September 2014-born female was bred by Edmund and Betty O’Carroll, Cloghogue, Castlebaldwin, Co Sligo.

Cloghogue Eldorado P112 held off competition, including Dillon Lexi, who was judged junior female reserve Champion. Sired by Carrigroe Hulk to dam Dillon Jessie, she was bred by John and Cathy Farrell, Mountdillon, Curraghroe, Co Roscommon.

On her way to winning top honours, Clooncolligan Kara was judged the senior female champion. Michael Cronin judged Ashtown Katie, bred by Michael and Niamh Barron, The Rower, Kilkenny, as the senior female reserve champion. The September 2013-born female was sired by Goulding Jumbo King K436 from the dam Ashtown Doris.

Male classes

In the male classes, Steil Larry 269 was also judged the Irish Angus junior male champion. He held off the advances of junior male reserve champion Mercury Lord Jet, bred by Shane and John Murphy, Woodlands, Glen south, Banteer, Co Cork. The November 2014-born young bull was bred from Friarstown Paddy Pershore M240 and dam Dalriada Lady Jet K818.

The senior male champion was awarded to Berry Lord (sire: Templequain Lord Jake K798; dam: Berry Heidi). The March 2014-born male was bred by Patrick Murphy, Ross, Glasson, Athlone, Co Westmeath.

The senior male reserve champion was awarded to Currycramp Lukas (sire: Clooncarne Frank; dam: Currycramp Cute). The April 2014-born male was bred by Gerard Mulligan, Currycramp, Dromod, Co Leitrim.

The youth development programme (YDP) classes also witnessed thrilling contests with Maire Mullooly, Lavally, Strokestown, Co Roscommon, the judge for all classes.
