Comment: IFA national pigs committee chair Pat O’Flaherty said it is very encouraging to see European prices moving on again this week, with France, Germany, Spain and Denmark all passing back healthy price increases to producers. However, it is crucial that Irish processors do not become complacent and ensure improvements in trade are reflected in farmgate prices. Demand for pork is currently strong and is likely to remain so due to a combination of factors, including the holiday season, the European Championships and a continuing strong export market. Evident that an imminent price increase is clearly justified.
