Well, I hate to say I told you so but … Michael Doran has been elected the new chair of the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF). Doran was elected ahead of Tom Wilson of the ICMSA last Thursday at an ICBF board meeting.
The Dealer had forecast that the former IFA livestock chair would be successful but the margin of victory was close.
Speaking to The Dealer after his victory, the Co Wexford dairy farmer, who has recently converted from beef, said that “after the abolition of milk quotas, we must ensure that the cow is the most suitable and most profitable for the farmer’s system”.
Doran added that he is “honoured to be elected chair of the ICBF and I would like to thank those who elected me. I’m very much excited and I’m relishing the challenge.”
The Irish Farmers Journal will carry an interview with Doran in the coming weeks.
