Bill Carroll has tendered his resignation from the board of Glanbia.

Glanbia plc issued a statement to the stock exchange on Friday afternoon, saying it "has been informed that Mr Bill Carroll has today resigned as a member of the board of Glanbia Co-operative Society Limited. As a consequence, the company confirms that he has automatically ceased to be a director of Glanbia plc."

Carroll, a dairy farmer from near Clonmel, Co Tipperary, was embroiled in a Department of Agriculture investigation in relation to milk quota issues surrounding his herd and the quota attached to Clongowes Wood College farm.

The case was investigated by the Department of Agriculture's Special Investigations Unit in 2014. Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney, in reply to a parliamentary question in the Dáil, stated: “Having regard to an opinion from the chief state solicitor’s office, and having considered all of the facts, the recommendation from my Department is that on balance, a prosecution is not warranted in this instance. All superlevies due have been paid in full and there has been no financial loss either to the Exchequer, to farmers or to the EU.”
