The month of August will be predominantly wet, according to self-styled weather guru Ken Ring.

Rainfall

The first two weeks of August will see showers in the west and northwest, with the north of the country seeing spells of rain around 10 August.

The south and east will be affected by rain in mid-August, while thundery rain may cause localised flooding in the third week of the month, especially in the south and east.

Drizzle will be widespread towards the end of the month, which will grow into heavy rain over the last few days.

Sunshine

Sunny days in August will be few and far between, with the best of the sun coming between 7 and 10 August. From the end of the second week, the weather will become bright for a few days, with periodic spells of sunshine. This will be short-lived, however, with rain returning in the third week, and very little sunshine forecast for the rest of the month.

Temperature

Temperatures will start high in the first week of August, due to a southwesterly airflow. The middle of the month will see a continuation of the warm temperatures, despite the lack of sunshine. A return to milder temperatures is forecast for the last week of August.
