Some 210 new farm buildings were granted planning permission in the third quarter of 2024, the latest Central Statistics Office (CSO) data shows.

In total 241 sheds were granted permission for either a new building or an extension or conversion to a new shed.

One hundred of the new sheds granted planning were in Munster and the southeast, while 65 were in the border counties and in the west. A total of 45 new sheds received planning permission in the east and midlands.

The number of new farm buildings is down slightly from the same period in 2023, when 268 new farm buildings received the green light from local authorities. Including extensions and conversions, 313 farm developments received the green light from planners in the third quarter of 2023.
