A c40ac farm with a cattle yard is for sale near Castletown-Geoghegan, Co Westmeath. This farm is at Monaghanstown and is being sold by auctioneers James L Murtagh. It’s going for auction shortly and the guide price is €12,000/ac.

The farm sits on the L1120, approximately 3km out from Castletown-Geoghegan in the direction of Dalystown. It’s 17km from Mullingar, 10km from Kilbeggan and the M6 motorway and 43km from Athlone town centre.

That certainly makes it a central location. In fact, the farm is just 3.7km as the crow flies from the geographical centre of Ireland, or 4km by road. That landmark, which is actually little more than a mark on a satellite map, is the other side of Castletown-Geoghegan, at Adamstown.

The slatted house is four bays long.

But the area has more substantial features of interest too, most notably Lough Ennell, which is popular for water sports and fishing and just 1km away. Lilliput House, where the writer Johnathan Swift at times lived, is nearby. The farm lies in one block and has frontage onto the public road. In permanent pasture, the land lies in three main fields and has good hedge boundaries on two sides.

The yard consists of a large four bay, A-roofed cattle shed. It has a centre feed passage and slatted pens on each side. Outside, there is a large open silage slab and open concrete yard area. The shed needs some tidying up but is very serviceable.

The auction takes place at the Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar at 3.30pm on 19 December. It will be one of the final auctions of 2023. The auction runs online as well on the LSL platform.
