The Royal Dublin Society (RDS), has secured the go-ahead for a new three-tier Anglesea Stand, with the announcement of a €10m grant form the Government.In July 2018. The Royal Dublin Society (RDS), has secured the go-ahead for a new three-tier Anglesea Stand, with the announcement of a €10m grant form the Government.
In July 2018. Dublin City Council awarded the planning after finding that the proposed stand will “provide a modern stand facility with enhanced hospitality facilities for visitors and patrons”.
As of right now, the stand can hold 5,743 people and the proposed replacement stand will increase capacity to 6,481. The existing stand is nearly 100 years old, having been built in the 1930s.
Consultants for the RDS told the council that the multi-purpose RDS arena “is a significant contributor to the economy of Dublin with an overall estimated combined economic impact of €136.5m to €166m from rugby games, concert events and the annual horse show”.
Last week, it was announced the
RDS will receive a grant of €10m from the Government’s Large Scale Sport
Infrastructure Fund for the redevelopment.
It is estimated that the new development will cost €46.5m. The RDS has not given a definite start date for the redevelopment but it is estimated that it will take 12-15 months to complete.
