The trade on Saturday was up on the previous week. The good weather and much improved grass growth enticed more farmers out and there was also a much better mood around the ring. The sales are still quite large, with more than 700 booked in again for next Saturday. The calf trade is holding well. Exporters are still the main source of demand but there have been more farmer buyers around the calf sales in the last few weeks. There are still a few Friesian bull calves coming through but the numbers of these will dwindle fast in the next few weeks. Prices paid for Angus and Herefords were a little stronger than the previous week.
