“My life is a pure misery after him,” a farmer in the south west told the Irish Farmers Journal.
“He demanded a deposit of €2,000, but we agreed on €1,500. The total cost of the shed was to be €7,500. He promised me I would have a shed the following week.
“I paid him in cash, I took it out of my own bank, and he gave me a signed contract with everything I had asked for.
“That was the only bit of work he did for the money: writing down what you ask for.”
The steel is still sitting there on the farm. I’d have been better off if I didn’t get it because it drives me mad when every time I look at it
The farmer and his son collected some steel for their shed but, on arriving home, discovered it was all incorrect sizes.
“The steel is still sitting there on the farm. I’d have been better off if I didn’t get it because it drives me mad when every time I look at it. It’s very frustrating.
“I’ve lost €1,500 and I rang around other companies and a shed will cost €10,000. That’s €11,500 and I was after scrimping and saving and borrowing to put that money together first time. Money is very hard got here.
“It’s ridiculous carry-on that he’s allowed to continue. I wouldn’t mind if he had fallen on hard times, but he went out of his way to take money off me.”
