So far, farmers and exporters have been active at sales throughout the country.

While overall numbers have still been small, prices have been quite good, with the average Friesian bull making €104/head, according to ICBF data.

Like last year, farmer buyers are tending to source better-quality calves from €110 to €130/head, with aged strong calves reported to be making over €150/head in some parts.

Shippers are active, but overall numbers sourced are small. Prices being paid by shippers are running mainly from €70 to €110/head. The numbers of Angus and Herefords on offer are small, but prices being reported range mainly from €180 to €280, with Herefords averaging about €50/head more than Angus calves.
