Last month the Irish Simmental Cattle Society introduced a policy in relation weight limits of young cattle at national shows. It stated a maximum average daily gain of 1.8kg for bulls and 1.6kg for heifers would be introduced on birth weights of 55kg for heifers and 60kg for bulls. However, some breeders drafted a letter to council expressing their discontent. It is understood the weight limits have been increased to 1.9kg for bulls and 1.7kg for heifers.
