Kilkenny Mart reported a good solid trade this week despite a slippage in beef quotes. This week’s sale saw an entry of 610 cattle, and there were plenty of customers for quality lots and forward stores. Plain cattle including some Friesian bullocks met a quieter trade.

Store heifers sold from €2/kg to €2.60/kg. Up to €1,050 was paid over the weight for continental heifers, with the average selling from €2.20/kg to €2.91/kg. Friesian cull cows made from €0.90/kg to €2.25/kg, while suckler cows with calves at foot made anything from €1,300 to €1,970.
