Dromara-based dairy farmer and Nuffield scholar Gregg Somerville has taken on the role of chair of the Nuffield Scholars Association Northern Ireland.
Drawing on his own experiences during his 2011 scholarship, Gregg hopes that the learning and knowledge provided through travel and research will enable young people to develop their own potential and that the wider sector will benefit from their experiences.
Gregg would encourage anyone with a good idea, which they would like to develop, to apply for an award.
Nuffield awards, sponsored by the Thomas Henry Foundation, are available to applicants from Northern Ireland, in the age bracket 22 to 45 years and who are employed in the farming, food, horticulture, rural and associated industries or are in a position to influence these industries. Applications will open early in the New Year.
Gregg Somerville has taken over the chairmanship from the long-serving Campbell Tweed of Ballygally. Assisting Gregg as vice chair is Ciaran Hamill from Antrim. Secretarial input is provided by Jason Rankin from Newtownards with Trevor Alcorn of Omagh assisting as his deputy.
