An agri food strategy to succeed Food Wise 2025 is being finalised, the Irish Farmers Journal understands.

It had been intended that the strategy would be published towards the end of 2020, but was delayed as the group awaited the outcome of Brexit.

The next strategy for the Irish agri food industry will have to deliver against a changed environment from its predecessors Food Harvest 2020 and Food Wise 2025.

It will have to function within the framework of the EU’s Farm to Fork strategy and the Irish national plan for delivery of CAP payments to Irish farmers from the start of 2023. It will also operate against the backdrop of greater costs of doing business with the UK.

With a final draft of the strategy expected before the end of this month, it will then go out to consultation before being adopted.
