The suckler herd average calving interval has dropped to 395 days, according to ICBF data.

This average is down six days on the 2019 figure.

Over the past seven years, this figure has fluctuated between 392 days and 406 days, the highest being the 2014 figure and the lowest in 2016.

Calves per cow

Looking at the rest of the figures, number of calves per cow per year rose by 0.02 to settle at 0.87. This average is the joint highest since 2014.

Age at first calving also seen a move in the right direction, with the average age now 30.9 months.
