An Tánaiste Simon Coveney has reacted angrily to an RTÉ report that the UK has proposed border checks post-Brexit.
The non-paper, believed to have been submitted by the UK to the EU as part of negotiations, outlines how customs checks would work on both sides of the Irish border in an effort to replace the backstop.
Response
Tweeting a response, Coveney said: “Time the EU had a serious proposal from the UK Government if a Brexit deal is to be achievable in October. NI and IRE deserves better!”
Non-Paper = Non-Starter. Time the EU had a serious proposal from the UK Govt if a #Brexit deal is to be achievable in October. NI and IRE deserves better!

The UK prime minister Boris Johnson has since dismissed the report as untrue.
He told the BBC that the content of the reported non-paper was not what the UK is proposing.
