Two farmers were left shaken after a black BMW 5-Series being pursued by Gardaí struck a herd of 80 dairy cows outside Emyvale, Co Monaghan last Thursday, 12 September.
Three cows suffered broken legs and had to be put down as a result of their injuries. Other cows were also seriously injured.
Local farmer Patrick Colton told the Irish Farmers Journal that he was moving his herd 200 yards from his farm into a field when the BMW approached. Colton was ahead of the herd, with his brother walking behind.

“The driver of the BMW edged forward towards the cows when he spotted a gap and just put the boot down,” explained the farmer, who was still in shock over the incident.
“All you could hear was cows hopping off the bonnet,” he added. Two other cars received minor damage during the incident.
