The review of the Irish whiskey technical file has been delayed. In Dáil Éireann last week, Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon said the public consultation on the Irish whiskey technical file will begin in early 2026.
However, in September the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine told the Irish Farmers Journal that the consultation would open at the end of 2025.
Answering a parliamentary question from deputy William Aird the Minister said the consultation will begin in 2026 and last for two months.

In his answer he said: “The process of amending the Irish whiskey technical file is currently underway and two submissions are being examined ahead of a public consultation process.
“This detailed examination includes an assessment on how to progress with any proposed amendments. Some amendments may be deemed ‘standard’ national amendments, with others considered ‘union’ amendments which must be submitted to the EU Commission for consideration.”
