It proved a lot trickier days trading then expected in Nenagh last week for the Irish Aberdeen Angus premier sale. The sale was hosted just one week after the highly successful inaugural Cashel sale, and the continued strong on farm trade meant that the catalogue of 30 was back down to 18 presented for sale.
While average settled at a respectful €2,545, this was only for 10 bulls sold meaning clearance hit 56%.
Following a highly successful day in Cashel, Oldcastle breeder John McEnroe was back in form selling the sale topper Liss Martini W951 at €3,000. This stylish February 2020 born bull is out of the 2019 all-Ireland champion Mogeely Dreamer. Carrying five stars on the replacement index he sold with a calving figure of just 1.6% on beef cows.
McEnroe also sold his second bull at €2,750. This one came in the form of Liss Billy W949, another February 2020 born. Sired by Cheeklaw Emrys and out of a Carton Roe David bred dam, this bull boasted four stars on the replacement index and three stars on the terminal. Last of the Liss bulls traded on the day sold for €2,500.
Taking the second top price of the sale Knockmountagh Terry W910 which hit the market at €2,850. One of the youngest bulls forward at just 12 month old this one was bred and exhibited by Eamon McKiernan from Monasterboice in Co Louth. Sired by NCBC bull HW Farghal he is out of a homebred bull by Friarstown Ideal Pete. Terry sold with five stars down the line and a calving index of only 1.8% on beef cows.
