Last week’s Scottish National Texel sale at Lanark saw the top price paid for a ram lamb from Myfyr Evans’ Rhaeadr flock, Denbigh, Wales. This sale topper was Rhaeadr Best of the Best, who was by the 70,000gns Teiglum Young Gun and out of a 12,000gns Auldhouseburn-bred ewe by the 145,000gns Knap Vicious Sid.
The hammer dropped at 125,000gns after considerable competition from bidders present. The successful bidders were Hugh and Alan Blackwood buying for their Auldhouseburn flock, Murikirk, Ayrshire.
The Blackwoods were also involved in the second-highest price of the day when selling Auldhouseburn Boss. This son of the 130,000gns Sportsmans A Star is out of a homebred dam by the 145,000gns Knap Vicious Sid, making this lamb a combination of recent high priced breeding. The overall average for the sale was £3,417 which represents a rise of £700/head on last year’s sale.
