The overall sale topper was exhibited by Paul Hannan, Friarstown, Crecora, Co Limerick. Lisnalty Brookem 1805 with an EBI of €182 and backed by an EX90 dam with yields up to 14,928kg at 3.52% protein sold for the day’s top price of €4,100. This January 2015-born bull is a son of De-Sa 521 Bookem ET (S1221) and was a first prize-winner in the pre-sale show.

James Kelly, Drogheda, Co Louth, claimed the day’s second highest price, selling his bull Monamore Rumpus for €3,800. This 17-month-old bull boasted an EBI of €279 and his dam had produced yields up to 3.90% protein.

Patrick Frawley, Raheen, Croagh, Co Limerick, sold Croagh Portable ET for €3,000. This third prize-winning bull is a son of the hugely successful show cow Ridgefield Dundee Portea EX95 2E, who was a two-time National Dairy Show champion at Millstreet.

Henry O’Keeffe, Freemount, Charleville, Co Cork, sold Radney Levi 51 for €2,900. This well-bred young bull is out of a 4.18% protein EX90 dam and is sired by the high EBI AI sire Radney Levi 5.

John O’ Callaghan, Bandon, Co Cork, sold Mountfarna Twister for €2,600. This October 2014-born bull is backed by an EX92 dam and is sired by Cogent Twist.

John J. O’Sullivan, Lisduff, Whitechurch, Co Cork, exhibited both the overall champion bull of the show and the reserve champion bull of the show. The champion bull, Lisduff Elusive, sired by Cordes Maid Stonewall ET sold for €2,400, while the reserve champion bull, Lisduff Lotus, sired by Guarini sold for €2,200.

Overall, the sale resulted in a 60% clearance to an average price of €2,350. This was a dramatic decrease on the 2015 sale at the same venue which achieved an average price of €3,400 at a similar clearance.
