Colmcille ladies football team have devoted part of their time to organising a farm safety event in north Longford.
The footballing ladies are running a toy tractor run focused on promoting safety in the workplace, with particular emphasis on young children. The run will go around the walkway at Leebeen Park, Aughnacliffe, Co Longford, on Saturday 2 June at 1:30pm.
This is the ladies' second year organising the event. Last year, more than 100 children participated and this year they hope to get as many children to attend again, according to local club member Patricia Hourican.
Road safety
Patricia said the club has a community garda coming to the event to highlight the importance of road safety and distribute RSA high visibility vests, road safety certificates and information packs.
This is a predominantly farming event and, with the large farming community in Aughnacliffe, the committee is expecting a big turnout.
The area that is hosting the event lost some members of its community to farming tragedies and the ladies hope further education could help prevent this happening again.
