A boat of young bulls will load for Turkey at Waterford this week.

The order is being filled by Purcell Brothers.

Meanwhile, Co Wicklow-based Roundwood Park Livestock is on course to fill its first boat of cattle for Algeria in early April.

It has irrevocable letters of credit for six boatloads of cattle, it told the Irish Farmers Journal.

“Algeria is building up stock for Ramadan,” a spokesperson said.

“Previously, it sourced cattle in France and Spain. We have now got that business for Irish cattle. We’d like to thank Bord Bia for help in doing so.”
