Some 500 farmers are claiming the Government’s illness benefit provided to people who are sick or self-isolating because of COVID-19.
The payment is only accessible if a person has a medical cert from their GP or has been advised to self-isolate by the HSE.
The payment provides the recipient with €350/week. It is available to full- and part-time farmers and if farmers also have work off-farm, it is not linked to their company sick pay scheme.
