Teagasc business and technology adviser for drystock Gary Fisher spoke about the importance of reseeding and the correct seed mixtures to use at BEEF 2016.
In the video, Gary examines different methods of reseeding grassland to see if there is any benefit or drawback to these methods. He then discusses the common mistakes that farmers make when reseeding and highlights the importance of using a post-emergence spray after reseeding.
As docks are a big issue on reseeded ground, Gary details what to look out for and when to spray to ensure you can have clean, productive grassland.
Gary also highlights the correct seed mixtures to use and encourages farmers to plan in advance and take the type of soil you have into consideration. Deciding what you intend to use the grass for is vital, whether it is for grazing or for silage production, as these will all require different seed mixtures.
