Weather warning
There is a yellow rainfall warning in place for counties Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford.
Heavy rain is forecast, especially near the coast, with totals of 25mm to 40mm expected up to midday on Monday.
A status yellow advisory notice was issued for all of Ireland on Saturday, to last until 6pm on Monday.
It warned of widespread heavy rain and strong easterly winds, turning to sleet as it spreads north, with some snow on hills and possibly at lower levels also in northern parts.
Rain, sleet and hill snow was forecast for much of Monday in the far north.
Monday
Scattered falls of rain are expected throughout the morning, especially further north of the country, with some wintry falls there. It will brighten up a small bit through the day, with brisk easterly winds easing too. However, scattered heavy showers will follow, especially across Leinster, with rain and sleet lingering across northern counties.
Temperatures in the south will max out at 8°C to 12°C, but only 3°C to 7°C in northern parts.
Monday night will see showers persist, mainly in the far north and far south. However, overall it will be dry and calm but rather misty.
Tuesday
An organised band of showers will move up from the south early on Tuesday, with the threat of thunder. Showers will merge into longer spells of rain across the north and west into the afternoon (with a risk of sleet over Donegal).
It should dry up across other areas, with some sunny spells breaking through. Afternoon temperatures will generally be 10°C to 12°C, colder though in the far northwest, with afternoon highs of 5°C to 8°C.
Wednesday
Sunshine and showers are forecast. Some showers will be heavy and merge into longer spells of rain, but it will become drier towards evening. Highest temperatures will range from 7°C to 10°C.
Wednesday night will be dry but turning very cold, with widespread frost.
Thursday
Thursday looks like it should be dry in most places, with just the threat of rain in the west. Some sunshine will develop in the east, while the west will be predominantly cloudy. Highest temperatures will be 8°C or 9°C.
Thursday night is looking milder, with no frost.
Friday
Sunshine and showers are expected, with highest temperatures of 9°C to 13°C.
