By the end of next week the consultation phase of the Beef Activation Group’s review should be complete.
Michael Dowling and Brendan Gleeson have been tasked with a review of the implementation of the group’s report from 2011. This is part of the seven-point plan outlined after the beef roundtable, which took place on 17 April. At the end of the process, Dowling and Gleeson will have met with beef processors that represent 70% of the national kill.
Macra Na Feirme was among those the group met with this week. According to Macra, the organisation emphasised “the importance of finding a solution to the current labelling issues between the North and South, the impact this issue has on live trade and bringing competition into the market”.
