The goal of the Accelerate Green programme is to equip Irish business owners in the climate action and sustainability sector with the necessary skills and knowledge to expand their enterprises, both within Ireland and internationally.

This is the last call for entries as the closing date is 10 November 2023.

Officially kicking off in January 2023, this accelerator programme is welcoming applications from SMEs aiming to scale up, startups with inventive climate solutions, and companies in the developmental stage actively seeking investment.

Leading the way

Bord na Móna chief executive Tom Donnellan highlights the benefits of the programme for business owners.

“Accelerate Green is a tremendous opportunity for Ireland’s rising green innovators to learn, grow and scale their business.

"The modules and mentoring we offer as part of the programme are tailor-made to help participants develop a thorough understanding of how to build a sustainable and resilient business model – an invaluable asset for all early-stage companies, and particularly those with the shared purpose of supporting a more sustainable future for Ireland through pioneering green innovations,” explained Tom.

He encourages all businesses that are keen to make a difference in the sustainability sector to apply.

In collaboration with Resolve Partners, Accelerate Green will give successful applicants a series of expert learning modules led by industry leaders, entrepreneurs, potential investors and successful representatives of Irish businesses.

This initiative has received €5m in funding from Bord na Móna to further develop this initiative until 2025, with the goal of providing ongoing support for environmentally conscious Irish businesses in their expansion efforts.

Benefits to business owners

Participants in Accelerate Green will have access to networking opportunities, mentoring and business development support by engaging with experienced senior leaders across Bord na Móna's business divisions.

Participants will also gain insights into Bord na Móna's commercial expertise and its successful transition from traditional peat harvesting to climate solutions and renewable energy development.

Since its inception in 2022, 25 Irish businesses from various regions have completed the programme, embarking on a journey to deliver innovative, sustainability-focused products and services.

Across all companies that participated in Accelerate Green, 80% have expanded their workforce, adding 85 jobs in total, and the average revenue growth among the program's alumni stands at an impressive 150%.
