The Kerry Group and Glanbia boss are two of the highest-paid CEOs in Ireland's top businesses, according to figures published by The Irish Times.

Head of Kerry Group Stan McCarthy's salary last year was the second highest at €4m, with a 5.7% increase. It was also the second in terms of the gap with the average cost per employee last year, standing at almost 84 times that of employees of Kerry Group.

The Kerry boss ranked three places above Ryanair's Michael O'Leary, who took home €3.2m.

Head of Glanbia Siobhan Talbot had a 16% pay increase, bringing her wage packet to €1.889m.

In terms of market value of the company, David McCann, executive chair of Fyffes, was the most expensive boss. His salary has remained unchanged for two decades at €1.25m, equating to almost 0.3 per cent of the group’s market capitalisation.

CEO of food group Aryzta Owen Killian saw the biggest drop. A decrease of 70% brought his salary to €1.857m. The company, which is based in Switzerland but Irish-run, has McDonalds, Subway and Burger King among its clients.

The head of Bank of Ireland Richie Boucher was paid less than a million in 2015, receiving €961,000, with the Permanent TSB Jeremy Masding taking home €452,000.

Other agribusinesses making the list include Total Produce, headed by Rory Byrne, who was paid €913,000, and CEO of Origin Enterprises who took home €890,000.
