Recent weeks have seen a rush of land auctions with most properties sold. James L Murtagh had a number of auctions with more to come. The firm sold a 140ac farm at Hodgestown, Killucan, Co Westmeath for €2,325,000. They auctioned a 65.5ac holding at Cooksborough and Castledown, Mullingar, in lots. Lot 1 was 25.87ac in seven main fields and it sold for €242,000. Lot 2 was 29.19ac in two fields separated by a public road and containing a yard with four bay slatted shed and cattle handling facilities. Some of this land was marginal. The lot sold for €255,000. Lot 3 was c10.5ac with road frontage and it sold for €180,000. The same firm auctioned a c89ac holding at Mullingar Road, Collinstown in various lots. Lot 3 - a house on c34ac - sold under the hammer for €700,000. The other c55ac was withdrawn at €540,000 and sold after at a higher price. The three bedroomed house required upgrading. James L Murtagh also sold a farmhouse at Carrick, Gaybrook, Co Westmeath for €293,000.

Joint agents Jordans and Sherry Fitzgerald Country sold the large 345ac Drummin Estate at Carbury, Co Kildare in lots. Lot 1, the house and yard on 53ac was brought to €680,000 by two bidders, withdrawn but was sold afterwards for an undisclosed sum. Lot 2 was 44ac. It was withdrawn at €440,000 and sold immediately afterwards to a local farmer. Lot 3 was c100ac in tillage, 114ac in grass, 28ac in woodland and 6ac of Willow. This lot was withdrawn at €1m and sold afterwards.

Eamonn Gaffney Auctioneers sold 38ac with a derelict, two storey farmhouse at Kilsarn, Loughduff, Co Cavan. The property sold in the entire for €340,000.

Raymond Potterton sold an 80ac farm at Carrick, Carbury, Co Kildare in the entire, for €565,000. This farm was non-residential. Connaughton Auctioneers sold part of a 31.3ac holding – mainly in the townlands of Kelloges and Bunavan - at Ahascragh in Co Galway. Lot 1 was 16.3ac with derelict outbuildings and it sold for €175,000. Lot 3 was 2.5ac of boglands and it sold for €1,000.

Quinn Property were also busy. They sold a 23.4ac holding at Rathnagrew, Hacketstown, Co Carlow for €345,000. The holding had a 30ft by 40ft shed with a holding pen and cattle crush. The same firm sold part of a 54ac farm at Rathshillane, Tacumshane, Co Wexford. Lot 2 was 18.67ac of tillage and pasture and it sold for €300,000. Lot 3 was 17.789ac of tillage and it sold for €240,000. The same firm sold The Weavers Haggard on c4.38ac at The Ballagh, Enniscorthy for €290,000.

GVM sold a farm at Brackagh, Ballycumber, Co Offaly in lots. The bulk of the farm sold as Lot 3 and made €1,725,000. This consisted of 159.9ac with the farmyard. The yard had cubicle and slatted cattle accommodation plus haysheds. Lot 4, a separate site of 3.75ac sold for €63,000. This site has road frontage and a mains water connection.
Tormey Auctioneers
Tormey Auctioneers sold 66ac at Kilpatrick, Bunbrosna, Co Westmeath for €1.01m. The land was all in grass and laid out in six main fields with good road frontage. The property included a four-bedroomed house with traditional outbuildings alongside. There was also a modern farmyard with a three bay hayshed and lean-to, a three bay double slatted shed with creep area, a silage pit and cattle crush.

Murtagh Bros sold 26ac with a traditional farmhouse at Fulmort, Multifarnham Co Westmeath for €410,000. The same firm achieved €710,000 for 28ac at Charlestown, Mullingar, Co Westmeath. They sold a farm at Drimure, Longford town. The 42ac holding, in one block, made €360,000.
Quillsens
Quillsens sold the Glen Road, Moynalvey, Co Meath in the entire for €60,000. Quillsens also sold Corner House, Ardcath, Co Meath for €192,000. This was a derelict two storey, detached house on a corner site in the village.

Meanwhile, Gary O’Driscoll Auctioneers recently closed the sale of the 138ac at Ballybroman, Ardfert, Co Kerry for €2.7m. The farm had a detached, two storey residence and outbuildings. The buyers were a local couple already farming in the area.
