Carlow’s Sam Watson recorded one of the biggest wins of his career in the CCIO4*-S at the 2019 Camphire International Horse Trials and Country Fair.
Watson posted a competitive dressage score with Imperial Sky and was one of only two riders to finish on his dressage score. New Zealand’s Tim Price finished second.
New Zealand won the FEI Eventing Nations Cup on a score of 98.90. Sally Corscadden’s Irish team of Fred Scala, Sarah Ennis, Brian Morrison and Sam Watson were second.
Sir Mark Todd, part of the winning New Zealand team, announced his retirement after the competition. Todd won Olympic gold at Los Angeles (1984) and Seoul (1988), won Badminton Horse Trials four times and Burghley Horse Trials five times.
