This January 2025-born Texel ewe lamb sold for €3,900 for the Clew Bay flock.
The Midland and Western Livestock Improvement Society’s bull showgrounds in Carrick-on-Shannon was the venue for the annual Christmas Belles sale on Monday 29 December.
This year’s sale had 61 entries from the Enniscrone, Clew Bay, Brideswell and Annaghdown flocks, which are all based in the west of Ireland.

Top call
Top call of the day went to a January 2025-born Clara Fandango-sired ewe lamb going back to a Hexel ewe.
She came to the ring with a long list of previous honours, with full sisters picking up numerous championships at summer shows.
Her dam flushed 30 embryos in 2024 and her full brother previously sold for €3,500 in Blessington.
After a marathon bidding session, auctioneer Francis McGowan knocked her down to Edward Buckley for €3,900.
She also had a double five-star index, placing her in the top 12% on the replacement index and in the top 3% on the terminal index.
Next-highest price went to the Enniscrone flock for their February 2024-born hogget sired by Garngour Gambler.
She was scanned in-lamb with twins to the €20,000 Silverhill He’s a Cracker.
Online bidders were very active, with 24% of the sheep sold in the sale knocked down to online bidders. Over 2,000 people tuned into the sale to watch it live on Martbids.
