Word has reached my ears that beef cattle age limits were mentioned in relation to last Sunday’s first reading in a church in east Galway. Discussing the request for Abraham to present a three-year-old heifer for sacrifice, the priest, who I’m told is a dab hand at farming and training sheepdogs, referenced that Abraham did not have to worry about the 30-month age limit when selecting the beast.Farmers can only hope that bumper beef prices remain, and that factories haven’t just given up squeezing farmers for Lent.
