DEAR EDITOR

I totally agree with Mike Magan in a recent edition of the Irish Farmers Journal. You can’t keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result.

It makes no sense all our co-ops competing against one another on the world market.

Let’s copy the west Cork model. Let every co-op keep their own identities and businesses but let Ornua, or whichever entity we choose to collect, process and sell our milk, which as we know is produced to the highest environmental and ethical standards in the world.

Can our co-ops put parish pump politics behind, work together and show true leadership to turn our milk into that premium brand which is a price maker and not a price taker?

Farmers need to be paid properly for the stellar job they’re doing producing world class food – having adapted and followed all the rules and regulations that are in place.

The rollercoaster is going to keep on a downward spiral unless we change our mindset.
