Philomena Begley has become the first Irish singer to be inducted into the British Country Music Hall of Fame. The Tyrone woman was honoured at a gala night hosted by the British Country Music Association at their annual awards celebration at the Concord Suite at Heathrow, London, on Sunday.
It was a night to cherish. Philomena was accorded a terrific reception by the country aficionados. The accolade marked the perfect end to her golden jubilee in showbiz.
“It has been a fantastic year for me and this is a truly special honour to round off the celebrations,” said Philomena.
“I’ve been nearly as busy in 2013 as I ever was down through the years. All the shows here at home, the holiday in the sun, other overseas events and now being inducted into the Hall of Fame, have all helped make this an amazing golden jubilee for me in country music.”
H&H Music are delighted to join in the celebrations with the release of Philomena’s new dvd, 50 Years of Music and Memories. Amazingly, this is only her second dvd (video) release.
The 86-minute presentation features her anniversary concert in Newry, with special guests Daniel O’Donnell, Ray Lynam, Aidan Quinn and Voice winner, her niece, Andrea Begley.
The compilation sees Philomena reflect on her long career in music and celebrates with appearances in Tyrone, Tennessee and Spain. There are 17 tracks on the dvd, including a number of medleys. Old favourites include Blanket On The Ground, Queen of the Silver Dollar, The Way Old Friends Do, Deportees, You’re The One I Can’t Live Without (a duet with Ray Lynam) and All The Road Running, which she sings with her son Aiden Quinn. This DVD is sure to be a winner with Philomena Begley fans this Christmas.
She has come a long way from where it all began in Ardboe Hall over five decades ago.
For Philomena, it is as natural as night follows day. Ireland, UK, America – Philomena is at home in any country town. Well done on your latest accolade, Philomena.
