The Moynalty community in Co Meath know how to host a festival. They have been doing it for 41 years now and the famous Steam Threshing Festival is all set to roll again on Sunday 14 August.

Country music has long been part of the big day in Moynalty and the organisers have ensured that patrons can once again look forward to a feast of quality entertainment throughout the afternoon.

The headline act is Nathan Carter, who will be on stage at 5pm. Also on stage will be local Meath brothers Matt and Paul Leavy, as well as Niamh Lynn, Eimear Furlong, and the Celtic Blondes.

A new jiving competition is being introduced this year and is expected to attract a lot of interest, especially from the younger dancers.

Moynalty attracts huge crowds during the festival and the parade through the village is something to behold, reviving golden memories of bygone days as the engines and enthusiasts make their way to the steam threshing park.

“This year we will have over 13 steam engines in the park – a phenomenal sight on their own. It is a great day out for young and old as it has something for everyone. Horse and steam power, reaping and binding, threshing and flailing will all be there.

“Traditional crafts such as basket weaving, turf making, steel forging, hot shoeing, tin craft, wood turning and butter-making demonstrations are all part of the day,” says Ronan Gaynor, PRO of the festival committee.

There will also be major display of vintage cars and farm machinery, all of which have been lovingly restored by enthusiasts from the four corners of Ireland. This year, Moynalty Festival celebrates 50 years of the Cortina MK 2. The children will be well entertained by the amusements on site and can visit the many animals at an old-style farmyard or enter their dog in the dog show.

The Irish lumberjack show is an exciting show of fearless skills and displays of wood-chopping, pole-climbing and chainsaw racing.

“Moynalty people are very proud of their Steam Threshing Festival,” says Ronan. “We are also delighted with how the country music show attracts so many to the village and, of course, we are very pleased to have Nathan Carter as our top act this year. Moynalty extends a warm welcome to all on Sunday.”
