With the USA exhibiting signs of diplomatic, trade and political aggression towards Europe, farming funding is likely to be affected, while tariffs would be crippling.
With the US indicating an unwillingness to continue to support Ukraine, it may fall to Europe to help keep Russia's invaders at bay. It may come at the cost of badly needed extra CAP funding.
The Luxembourg man said that where additional burdens are placed on farmers then there needs to be additional funding, but could not say where this funding would come from.
He said Brussels should 'not just have bland deadlines that that are not fit for purpose', adding that it is very important to take into account the geography and soil type in certain areas of the EU.
The EU Commissioner said that 'black sheep' were causing negativity towards live transport of animals among the public, but that the distance or method of transport was not the most important factor.
