During Tuesday’s trade, grain prices in both markets in Chicago and Paris rebounded from the declines at the beginning of the week.

Europe

On the Euronext exchange in Paris, most grain prices recovered Monday’s losses, although there was another fall for maize.

European wheat for December 2015 delivery gained slightly to settle at €180/t, while December 2016 wheat futures increased by €1/t to end Tuesday’s trade just below €193/t.

Maize prices were mixed. November 2015 maize futures were down slightly to just below €161/t, while maize for November 2016 delivery gained by €1/t to finish at €181/t.

From next week, we will be reporting May prices for rapeseed as the Euronext exchange has finished offering November prices for the crop.

Chicago

On the Chicago exchange (CBOT), futures prices for cereals made gains across the board. Market analysts believe that US farmers are holding maize stocks in the hope futures prices will rise above the $4/bu mark. As such, the lack of a physical supply is supporting the firmness in prices.

For wheat, futures prices for SRW wheat with December 2015 delivery gained $3/t during Tuesday’s trade to settle at $190/t (€174/t), while December 2016 SRW wheat increased by the same to finish over $200/t (€183/t).

US maize for December 2015 delivery was up by $2/t to end the day at $150/t (€137/t), while December 2016 maize prices gained by $1/t to finish on $160/t (€146/t).
