With the clocks gone back and a week of bad weather (putting it mildly) behind us, many of us may be tempted to light the fire and take to the couch for some TV time.
Despite the dark evenings, it is still good to get out. A remedy to this situation may be the cinema. You are still inside and taking it easy, but also getting the feelgood factor of getting out and about.
Luckily, there are some great films in the cinema at the moment if you’re looking to pay a visit.
The Banshees of Inisherin
The Banshees of Inisherin features an all-star cast that includes Brendan Gleeson, Colin Farrell, Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon.
It is written and directed by Martin McDonagh and D’Unbelievables duo Pat Shortt and Jon Kenny are back together under a different guise for this film. What a line-up!
With so many big names attached to one movie, no wonder it is “the one to watch” at the minute.
A comedy drama, the plot follows two lifelong friends that find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, with alarming consequences for both of them.
Lyra
Lyra is a documentary about Belfast journalist Lyra McKee who was shot dead by the New IRA in 2019, while covering rioting in Derry.
The documentary is by her friend, Bafta-winning director Alison Millar. It is an emotive portrait of Lyra’s life and work. It features interviews with her family and friends.
Black Adam
If you are into superhero movies, then Black Adam is a new addition to the DC franchise you may like. It is based on the DC Comics character of the same name.
Almost 5,000 years after his powers were bestowed upon him and he was almost immediately imprisoned, Black Adam is released to bring his unique form of justice to the world. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Sarah Shahia and Pierce Brosnan.
Call Jane
Set in 1960s America, Call Jane stars Elizabeth Banks as Joy. Joy is a married woman who is dealing with a life-threatening pregnancy at a time in America when you can’t get a legal abortion.
Joy works with a group of suburban women to find help. The film partnered with Planned Parenthood and Abortion Care Network to screen at dozens of clinics around America, with the hope of raising awareness about abortion services.
